Air Spring Removal
WARNING: The air suspension system is under pressure (up to 10 bar,
or 150 lbf/in²). Do not allow dirt or grease to enter the system. Always wear
standard protective hand, ear, and eye protection when servicing the air suspension
system.
Removal
1. Turn the air suspension switch to the OFF position. (Switch is located on the
driver side of the luggage compartment.)
2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist or with the proper lifting equipment. Suspension
must be at full rebound with no load against the lower control arm.
WARNING: Always support the chassis on safety stands.
Refer to your Owner’s Manual for correct lifting instructions.
3. Remove rear tire(s).
4. Remove air spring solenoid retaining-clip.
5. Rotate solenoid counterclockwise to the first stop, and then carefully pull
down to vent the air pressure from the air spring. After air spring is deflated,
turn again and remove solenoid from air spring.
6. Depress the four plastic locking finger clips in bottom of air spring’s piston to
unclip air spring from the lower suspension arm.
7. Depress the metal locking tab at top of rear air spring. While holding down on
the clip, rotate the air spring to disengage the top cap from chassis.
8. Carefully remove air spring from the chassis.
9. Seal off solenoid to prevent any dirt or grease from entering system.
Air Spring Installation
1. Change o-rings on the air spring solenoid.
2. Install solenoid, and replace solenoid retaining-clip.
3. Replace the top air spring retaining-clip.
4. Insert the air spring’s upper cap into the two holes in chassis and twist to lock
back in place. The rear air spring will fit in either RH or LH.
5. Insert the plastic locking fingers of lower piston into lower suspension arm.
Make sure they are locked in place. You need to visually verify that all of the
four plastic fingers are correctly retained.
CAUTION: Do not inflate or pressurize the rear air spring until it is
correctly installed!
6. Replace tire and wheel assembly. Tighten wheel hub bolt nuts to 115-142 N-
m (85-105 lb-ft). Remove all safety stands and lower vehicle.
7. Partially lower the rear suspension. DO NOT LOWER TO THE BUMP
STOP
8. Turn the air suspension switch to the ON position.
9. Start the engine and let the air suspension rise to normal trim height. Note:
The air springs may make a loud pop when inflating for the first time. This
is the rubber bladder folding over the lower piston. Do not worry, the sound
is completely normal.
WARNING: Make sure to tighten all wheel hub bolt nuts to 115-142 Nm
(85-105 lb-ft).
